NITDA Takes Control of Nigeria’s Government Enterprise Architecture in Digital Governance Shift

Techleaders Africa28 March 20261 min read

Nigeria is restructuring its digital governance framework. National Information Technology Development Agency has officially taken over the Government Enterprise Architecture (GEA), marking a significant step toward centralized coordination of digital systems across public institutions.

The move gives NITDA greater authority to standardize IT infrastructure, streamline digital services, and ensure interoperability across government agencies. By consolidating oversight, the agency aims to reduce duplication, improve efficiency, and strengthen data-driven governance across ministries and departments.

This development reflects a broader shift toward structured digital governance in Africa, where governments are moving to unify fragmented systems and build integrated digital ecosystems.

If effectively implemented, NITDA’s expanded role could accelerate Nigeria’s public sector digital transformation, setting a precedent for how large economies manage and scale government technology infrastructure.
